Andrea Vezga was born in 1991 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Based in Vienna since 2016, she continues to study and develop her own artistic work.
She moved very young to Costa Rica, where she completed her BA in International Affairs and her BA Degree in Contemporary Dance in the National University of Costa Rica (2014). Upon graduation she had the opportunity to be a guest choreographer for the Camera Dance UNA Company, where her piece PICTTO has been in repertoire for four consecutive years and has been presented in Costa Rica, Mexico and El Salvador. Additionally, she has had the opportunity to continue her training with different teachers in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, Panama, Venezuela.
Next to her contemporary dance practice, she has profoundly studied West African dances with masters such as Argelia Arreola, Mouminatou Camara, Christa Fatoumata Sylla, M'bemba Bangoura and many others. Together with master Fred Herrera she participated in the production of the First Iberoamerican Festival of Butoh Dance, in San Jose, Costa Rica. These have been big influences in her dance style and research interests.
Her interest in interdisciplinary work and her studies in social sciences influenced her to come to Vienna and pursue her MA degree. She has had the opportunity to work as an independent artist, always concerned with topics revolving around the construction of identity and culture.
In January 2019, she has completed her Master studies in Arts and Science at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Her thesis work Ectopic Bodies, an experimental dance film, premiered in Schikaneder Kino in Vienna and was further developed into an installation exhibited at Heiligenkreuzerhof, Vienna.
